I feel like I should have heard the Skip Spence original before. People have been telling me to listen to Oar for years.
Here's a video from the Record Club series on Beck's site. He has been recording his favorite albums with friends. (Of course, his friends are pretty well known themselves.) He's already wrapped up Velvet Underground & Nico and Songs of Leonard Cohen and is three songs into Oar. He writes: "There is no intention to 'add to' the original work or attempt to recreate the power of the original recording. Only to play music and document what happens. And those who aren't familiar with the albums in question will hopefully look for the songs in their definitive versions." His plan worked. [via beck.com]
